About Dr. Peters
I am a licensed clinical psychologist offering virtual psychotherapy to adults in New York State. My clinical experience encompasses an array of psychological concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, sex/sexuality, body image, chronic illness, substance use, and complex relational and family dynamics.
In addition to my general practice, I have specialized training in the treatment of personality disorders and extensive experience working with survivors of abuse. My doctoral dissertation included a study of narcissism, narcissistic pathology, and attachment trauma.
My prior role as an assistant adjunct professor at Teachers College, Columbia University has allowed me to stay engaged with the latest research and developments in the field, enriching the therapeutic experience I offer to my patients.
Training & Qualifications
I earned my B.A. from Yale University, my postbaccalaureate from Columbia University, and my doctorate in clinical psychology from the Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. I received intensive full-time clinical training at Bellevue Hospital, where I treated patients across the lifespan in the inpatient, outpatient, and psychiatric emergency departments.
Additional clinical experiences include Mount Sinai Morningside (St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital), NYC H+H | North Central Bronx, multiple university counseling centers, and a community-based mental health clinic.
Prior to graduate school, I worked as a crisis counselor for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. I also served as a research assistant on studies of psychedelic medicine at NYU-Langone, military sexual and combat trauma at Weill Cornell, and cognitive neuroscience at Columbia.
Therapeutic Style
My approach prioritizes authenticity, warmth, and active engagement, and I value the patterns that recur in our ways of being to shape our identity, behavior, and relationships. I work primarily from a psychodynamic perspective with roots in attachment theory, and I draw from cognitive behavioral, trauma-informed, and mind-body modalities to complement an insight-driven approach with here-and-now strategies for cultivating resilience and relief.
My practice welcomes those navigating high-pressure academic/professional environments, significant life transitions, or the daily stressors of personhood. Reach out for a complimentary consultation to learn more about how I work.
